This page explains the current IFA Texas preservation pathway, what direct contact means, what institutions still control, and what remains under development.
Preservation now; later conversion remains a separate development path.
The direct-patient pathway is designed so an individual can begin planning with IFA without first obtaining a hospital or hospice referral. It does not bypass ordinary law, institutional release procedures, or medical-examiner authority.
What is IFA offering in Texas now?
IFA is preparing a limited patient-elected brain-preservation and custody pathway. The immediate purpose is to preserve person-relevant biological structure after legal death and maintain controlled custody for later readout and restoration-related development.
Is this the same as saying human conversion already works?
No. Downstream human biological-to-computational conversion has not been demonstrated. IFA is developing that later technical pathway separately.
Do I need a hospital or hospice referral?
No. A patient, family member, or authorized representative can contact IFA directly. If death later occurs in a hospital, hospice, long-term-care facility, or other setting, that organization may still participate in the lawful release and custody-transfer process.
Can I contact IFA before I am near death?
Yes. Earlier contact is operationally preferable because decision authority, facility contacts, receiving-provider availability, transport, documentation, and custody planning can take time to resolve.
Can a family member make the decision?
A family member can ask questions and help with planning. Any binding election or contract must come from the patient or someone who has legally sufficient authority for that particular case.
What is the current price?
IFA is using approximately $20,000 as a working planning target for a near-need preservation case. Final price, scope, payment terms, custody terms, and eligibility are contract- and case-dependent. The website does not take payment.
What happens if the patient is in a hospital or hospice?
IFA can coordinate with the patient or representative and prepare the receiving route. Ordinary medical care, legal death pronouncement, medical-examiner or coroner authority where applicable, identification, and the institution's lawful release process remain controlling.
Does IFA direct medical care before death?
No. IFA does not direct treatment, determine death, or perform a pre-death preservation procedure through this patient-information pathway.
What happens after legal death?
If the case was accepted and the lawful release route is clear, the designated receiving/provider chain takes custody and performs the preservation and custody work specified by the executed arrangements.
Why retain the biological brain after preservation?
The preserved biological source can remain useful for later readout, re-readout, reconstruction audit, provenance, and future methods that may extract information not used in an earlier pass. The biological source is therefore treated as an important reference artifact rather than automatically disposable after a later conversion attempt.
What does preservation guarantee?
It does not guarantee later reconstruction, identity continuity, successful post-biological operation, or a particular timeline. The present purpose is to preserve the biological source and keep later technical options physically open.
What should I send in a first inquiry?
Keep it simple: your name, whether you are the patient or are contacting on someone's behalf, Texas city or area, approximate timeframe, current setting, and a way for IFA to contact you. Do not email medical records or sensitive health documents unless IFA later requests a secure case-specific exchange.
